Journal Entry 3 - Feedback
Project C » Devlog
Date: 18. 5. 2024
Activity: Getting feedback from fellow classmates
Outcome:
I got these tips:
- add more polish, like sound effects and music
- I definitely will do this. It just did not feel like a priority for the playtesting lab.
- think of a way to make the scoring infinite, like proper arcade
- The way it is made now, after the ground is full, there is no way to progress further, I have to change this as well
- add a timer between planting each plant
- I used to have it to prevent collisions, but then removed it, because it felt like I am not in control of the game. But one student pointed out that without the timer it is quite easy to cheat the game by smashing spacebar
- make more plant variants
- I wanted to make this as well, but again it was not priority for the playtesting. I wanted to select plant sprites at random, but one student came up with an idea that the player could choose which plant to plant, and different plants could have different properties. I feel like this change might defeat the purpose of a quick arcade game, but it is great idea nonetheless, I am thinking about implementing some version of that.
- minor graphical detail in the end screen
- I was missing a colon in the highscore label in the game over screen.
